Air-cooled engine parts machining

 JS Auto Tuning can provide all your machining requirements for your air-cooled engine and more with precision engineering services to turn your scrap into parts you can reuse in your engine build.
If you're thinking of overhauling your air-cooled engine, and wish to increase capacity, or recondition your parts ready, we can help.

We can line bore and or thrust cut your crankcase, regrind your crankshaft, port your cylinder heads or bore for larger barrels and pistons, and fly cut to increase compression. Please contact us for more details. 

Aircooled engine machining.

We can take your old genuine 30 horse, type 1 or type 4 VW/Porsche air-cooled engine case, and machine it back to manufacturer specifications to enable you to reuse it, saving you the ever increasing costs and wait time of  having to buy a new crank case.

Visually checking then measuring with precision gauges to check initially if your case can be re-machined successfully to be put back into operation for your next engine project..

Firstly the case halves are carefully inspected for any signs of warping, camshaft journals and cam follower bores are also checked, main bearing journals are then measured, so the correct size line boring service of the bearing main journals can be performed, and cutting of the thrust surface where necessary on the rear main.

Afterwards careful measuring and checking of the machining process is undertaken, to be sure the jobs have now put the case back within manufacturers specifications, and we can size and order replacement bearings to suit.

Any pulled head stud threads can be repaired, by drilling and tapping for an oversized case saver insert, which ends up stronger than new.
We can upgrade the whole case to case savers for added strength and security.

After the initial remanufacturing processes are performed, and we know the case can now be put back onto reliable service,
We can undertake any modifications required, from full flow oil modification, which we like to make sure is done correctly so the fittings wont foul the tinware, to boring the case for larger cylinders, 90.5/92 or step Boring for 94s.
This task is performed on our in house made jig, which ensures especially the cylinder spot facing part of this process keeps the cylinders in line with the crankshaft centreline.


We can also perform the Hoover oil modifications in the case, pull the oil gallery blank plugs, then drill and tap the holes for threaded fittings to enable the thorough cleaning before reassembly.
